The past cannot be changed, forgotten, edited or erased. It can only be accepted.
We all make mistakes. Each and every one of us make decisions that we are not proud of. Everyone does things they wish they didn’t do.
It’s not about the mistakes we’ve made, the things we never said, or the things we should have done differently, it’s about learning from those mistakes and using that to become a better, stronger, more knowledgeable person.
Live in the present. The past is behind you. You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you are still rereading the last one. Don’t fear, regret, or dwell on the things you have done- take those mistakes and learn from them. Your past has given you the strength and wisdom that you have today.
You look back on your life, and you see pain, hurt, and mistakes. Take the chance to look in the mirror; look at the strength and perseverance, lessons learned, and take pride in yourself.
Your past makes you who you are but it does not define you as a person. Life is a learning experience. If you went through life making all the right choices, then you would not know right from wrong, good from bad, or mistakes from perfection.
You’ve been through a lot- you’re not the only one. You have grown as a person and know you are better each day than you used to be.
Next time you judge someone, just remember your story. Remember that everyone has a story. Remember that you don’t know someone’s story- the things they have been through, or the things they have done.
"𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆. 𝒀𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕. 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚."
We are the way we are for a reason; we might not know everyone’s reason. Spend less time listening to the negative comments and judgment of others and more time being supportive of the change and progress of their rough past.
Because in reality, you don’t know what someone is going through.
You are not your past, and neither are they.
